IND vs SA Highlights, 1st Test Day 1: Rahul keeps India solid at 272/3 at Stumps

150 up for India! KL Rahul, alongside Virat Kohli are taking the innings forward after Ngidi's double strike.

Indian batters living a little dangerously in the past few overs. Mulder finds an outside edge off Rahul but the ball doesn't carry. Clever from Rahul too, who played with a very soft bat.

KL Rahul finds a big top-edge but he is safe. Mulder almost gets lucky this time and to be honest, he deserved that wicket because he has tested the India batter's patience in this spell. Rahul goes for a pull but didn't get the timing and the ball travels to backward square leg. Jansen tries his best but falls short.

But safe. Kohli goes for an adventurous cover drive but finds a thick outside edge. Thankfully for him and India, the ball keeps grounded.

Virat Kohli is served with half-volleys from Mulder but the Indian captain could only get a single despite timing all of them. One run off the over.

Maharaj has been relatively expensive and Dean Elgar might as well switch back to fast bowlers at both ends. Five off the over and Rahul finds another boundary.

Kohli finds his first boundary of the innings against Keshav Maharaj. Huge onus on the captain and vice-captain KL Rahul as they seek to rebuild the Indian innings after the double blow.

Rahul remains undeterred with the two-wicket over as he leaves away the balls wide outside off. Tight bowling from South Africa as well, as they continue to keep their lines near the fourth stump line.

A 13th Test half-century for KL Rahul and he, like Mayank, brings his fifty with a boundary. The Indian vice-captain slams a cover drive to bring his half-century.

Lungi Ngidi has seemingly changed the course of this game in merely two deliveries. Pressure now on captain Kohli, who hasn't exactly been in the best of form over the past few months. 

ON THE FIRST BALL! Pujara is out on a duck! This is a terrific comeback from South Africa. Ngidi on a hat-trick! An inside edge clips his thighs and the short leg has a simple catch.

Update: NO HAT-TRICK! Wide outside-off and Kohli leaves it easily.

There's a review for LBW against Mayank. And that's out! India lose their first wicket. Lungi Ngidi with the breakthrough! The ball is clipping the leg stump. A good review from South Africa as they finally break the gritty stand. The ball comes back sharply into the right hander from the back of the length, and clips his front pad.

Mayank Agarwal safely negotiates Lungi Ngidi as he bowls, perhaps, his best over of the day so far. He bowls largely on the good length and forces Mayank to play, but the opener plays behind the line.

Another solid boundary from the Indian vice-captain. A backfoot punch against Mulder towards the sweeper cover as he moves to 43.

The ball is moving a bit more dangerously than in the first session. Rabada gets an edge off Mayank but the ball was pitched a little short and didn't carry to the slip.

Rahul gets a thick upper edge on a short-pitched delivery but it luckily goes over the slips. In the same over, the left-armer pushes his length further and Rahul has a rare lapse in concentration as he goes for an adventurous drive. He misses, and regains composure.

The TV broadcast runs Rahul's shot selection so far and it can't be reiterated enough - it has been a highly disciplined batting performance from the India vice-captain so far. He wants absolutely nothing to do with balls wide outside-off.

Boundary against Jansen from Rahul. This has been the highlight of Rahul's innings so far; he has been wary of the late movement and only punishing the bad deliveries. This one was fuller and onto stumps – Rahul pulls out the trademark flick.

A little more bounce for Rabada in the second session so far. Rahul was taken aback in the previous over with extra bounce and would've certainly been caught had there been a short leg, but this time, the opener was more ready to be on his toes. Defends successfully.

An impressive half-century from Mayank Agarwal! He brings his fifty with a stylish boundary towards long-off.

Kagiso Rabada to resume the proceedings in the second session of the day.

What a start for India. Mayank Agarwal did look a little nervy towards the end but India will return to the field with both of their openers intact, which undoubtedly remains the biggest positive. Mayank is also nearing his half-century while KL Rahul stays strong at 29 off 84 deliveries.

The duo is applauded by Kohli and co. as they approach the dressing room and deservingly so.
